UPDATE: I just walked by the store and it looks great. There were about 125 people in line ~ 3:30 PM. The guy at the very front of the line was such a fanboi that he even looked like Steve Jobs' brother. :sick: :cringe:

I was making fun of your grammar, not arguing about what's in a mall.

And FWIW, what do you call a row of shops? I know Walnut Street isn't in a mall proper, but honestly, what's the difference? The only thing I see that's different between Walnut Street and Providence Place is that you can drive a car down Walnut Street -- the rest of the shops are all made out of ticky tacky and they all look just the same.

One is completely private and one is mostly public. In a retail district, the shops are situated around public space (streets, plazas, etc). They can throw people out of their stores, but not out of their immediate area. They can't keep anyone from protesting outside their store. A shopping mall is owned by one entity in order to control every aspect of their customers' shopping experience. One company can throw people out, enforce curfews, control which stores locate there, impose aesthetic guidelines, etc.

i would guess a mall is a building/district/area owned/managed by a single entity.
a mall would be owned by a company with shops who rent space from it.
a retail district would be located in a public causeway or place where it is legal for cops to give you traffic tickets (not a private drive)

not that i know what the hell walnut street qualifies as. a place to buy crap is a place to buy crap.
which makes me wonder, are there owner's associations for shopping districts?
